Stacie Mason, 49, served as a Traffic Analyst Technician with Indian River County, bringing professionalism, diligence, and a positive presence to her role. Danny Ooley, 56, was a respected Assistant Director of Public Works, dedicating nearly 25 years to the county through leadership, hard work, and a commitment to public service. In a press conference, Vero Beach Police Chief David Currey shared that the tragedy appeared to stem from a personal matter. Authorities believe Stacie’s husband, Jesse Scott Ellis, 64, approached the vehicle where the two were located and fired multiple rounds, striking them both. An AR‑style firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene. Ellis is currently wanted by law enforcement, and a search involving ground and water units is ongoing as officials continue to pursue leads.
