Michael Vebert Wayne, Crash Death Obituary: Cherish Resident Has Died In A Fatal Crash

Michael Vebert, a 46-year-old resident of Fort Wayne, has tragically passed away following a fatal crash on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, leaving the community in mourning.

Authorities report that the accident occurred in Marshall County along State Road 8 near its junction with State Road 17. Michael was driving a 2008 Mercury Sable eastbound when his vehicle failed to yield to a southbound 2018 Freightliner semi-truck operated by 61-year-old Mitchell Sailor of Elkhart. The collision was severe, and Michael was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured and declined medical attention.

Two passengers traveling with Michael—an adult seated in the front and a child in the back—sustained injuries and were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Emergency personnel from multiple agencies, including the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Plymouth Fire/EMS, Culver EMS, and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, responded to the incident and assisted at the scene.

Michael is being remembered as a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a kind neighbor whose warmth and personality touched many lives. His loss is deeply felt by those who knew him.
