BUCHANAN COUNTY, VA — The Buchanan County community mourns the untimely passing of Kimberly Christian Buchanan, who was found deceased on Sunday, March 22, 2026, along an ATV trail in the Looney’s Creek area. Her life was tragically cut short under circumstances that remain under investigation.
On that day, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle about two miles off Old Wolf Road. Deputies discovered Kimberly’s pickup truck stuck in the mud, with a small dog inside that appeared to have been without food for some time. The dog was safely taken to Buchanan County Animal Control.
A search and rescue effort was immediately launched, involving the Sheriff’s Office Drone Team and K-9 Unit. During the search, K-9 Nyx and Deputy Hawks located Kimberly’s body nearby. Both the scene and vehicle were carefully processed for evidence. Her body was then transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke, where she was positively identified.
