Gary Maurice Davis Death Obituary: Cherish Resident Has Died
A lifelong music lover, Gary followed in his mother’s footsteps as an avid bass player and singer, proudly sharing his talents with the Charleston Area Community Choir. He attended Madison schools and graduated from Scott High School, where he also played basketball. Gary retired in 2022 from CBRE as a Building Engineer, forming lasting friendships along the way.
Gary’s warmth, humor, and ability to bring people together were hallmarks of his life. He loved cooking, especially on his Big Green Egg, and creating joyful moments for those around him. In 1997, he married Yvonne Wilson, and together they built a life filled with love across Virginia, Georgia, and Florida. In 2023, they returned to West Virginia, where Gary embraced the role of “Paw Paw Bear” to his beloved granddaughter, Brielle.
He was preceded in death by his mother Audra Smoot-Dillard, father Curtis Davis, stepfather Thomas James Dillard, and sister Regina Powell-Richardson.
Gary is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Yvonne Davis; his daughters Jamie Cotton, Summer Davis, and Dr. Jerica Wesley (Jonathan); his extended daughters Tamyiko Wilson McDonnough and Ceateetra Booker; his grandchildren Michael Cotton, Jonas McDonnough, Brittany Cotton, and Brielle Wesley; his siblings Audrana Austin Maynard, Curtis “Gene” Davis (Tia), and Terri Outlaw (Edward); and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Gary Maurice Davis leaves a legacy rooted in love, joy, and connection. His music, laughter, and generous spirit will continue to echo in the lives of all who knew him.
