DIXON, IL — The Dixon community mourns the tragic loss of 27-year-old Justin Wiggins, who died in a small plane crash on Friday, March 20, near Thome and McNeil roads, just south of the Whiteside County Airport. The accident occurred around 3:10 p.m., and Wiggins, the lone occupant of the Piper PA‑28 aircraft, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one on the ground was injured.

Friends and family remember Justin as a devoted son, brother, and friend with a passion for flying. A Dixon High School graduate, he divided his time between repairing computers and taking to the skies. Those who knew him described him as calm, helpful, and enthusiastic about aviation. His sudden passing has left the community in shock.

The plane, owned by JCL Equipment Rental of Coleta, crashed in open fields without striking any structures or vehicles. Whiteside County Coroner Joe McDonald confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma from the impact. Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are reviewing the circumstances, with a preliminary NTSB report expected soon.

Family, friends, and neighbors have gathered at the crash site with flowers, candles, and photos to honor Justin’s memory.
