Rylan Connor Mirts, a 17-year-old resident of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away on March 19, 2026, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. His unexpected passing has left his family, friends, classmates, and the wider community in deep sorrow as they remember a young life filled with promise, dedication, and kindness.

Born on January 30, 2009, in Omaha, Rylan was the cherished son of Kaleb and Heather (Ballinger) Mirts. He grew up in Red Oak, where he attended Red Oak Community High School as a junior. During his time there, he formed meaningful friendships and made a lasting impression on both peers and teachers through his character and positive presence.

In his earlier years, Rylan was involved in wrestling, where he demonstrated perseverance and determination. As he grew older, he became actively engaged in the National FFA Organization, serving as treasurer. Through this involvement, he developed strong leadership abilities and a deep appreciation for agriculture, teamwork, and community service.

Rylan was widely known for his strong work ethic and readiness to help others. He had a natural talent as a mechanic and worked closely with his father in the family business, where he took pride in learning hands-on skills. In addition, he assisted his grandfather, Kevin, with livestock and gained experience working in the seed business with Joe Lydon. No matter the responsibility, Rylan approached each task with dedication and a positive attitude.

Outside of his responsibilities, Rylan had a wide range of interests. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, participating in local truck shows with his truck, and expressing his creativity through photography. He also shared his humor and personality on TikTok, connecting with others in his own unique way. Above all, he deeply valued his family, especially his younger sister, Bristol. He was a constant source of encouragement in her life, attending her dance events and supporting her wholeheartedly.

Rylan will be remembered for his vibrant personality, infectious humor, and kind-hearted nature. He brought joy and laughter to those around him and left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gail Mirts, and great-grandmother, Phyllis Norris. He is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, and many friends who will continue to honor his memory.

A celebration of life is scheduled for March 27, 2026, at LeRette Funeral Chapel, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will take place the evening prior. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
